11 Actresses Who Turned Down The Starring Role In "Basic Instinct" Because It Was Too Sexy

Thursday May 28, 2009 9:58 AM

Our trip down movie mammary lane continues with a look at one of our favorite sexy movies – Basic Instinct. When it came out in 1992, its relatively unknown star Sharon Stone made a name for herself in the showers and bedrooms of adolescent boys everywhere with the crotch shot seen round the world. But what you may not realize is that before Stone landed the role of Catherine Trammel, there were actually 11 actresses who turned down the part because they thought the role was too sexy. Prudes. Here they are in all their glory:

11. Demi Moore
Basic Instinct was too sexy for Demi, but Striptease wasn’t? It’s amazing what a few years in Hollywood and a new boob job can do to an actress’s creative process.

10. Kim Basinger
Here’s an analogy for you: Kim Basinger is to Sharon Stone as crazy is to crazy.

9. Julia Roberts
It turns out America’s favorite whore wasn’t quite whory enough to take on the role.

8. Meg Ryan
Apparently Meg Ryan was saving her on-screen nudity for more important movies like In The Cut.

7. Nicole Kidman
The sex scenes probably would have been a lot less exciting had Nicole been cast because we assume she only knows how to just lay there.

6. Ellen Barkin
Now this would have made a lot of sense…and a lot less money.

5. Jodie Foster
We can’t picture Jodie Foster in this role at all. However, we’re guessing if she was cast that the makeup dept. would have to work overtime to clean her up “down there” for that infamous crotch shot.

4. Mariel Hemingway
When exactly was Mariel Hemingway sexy?

3. Geena Davis
We had no idea that Geena Davis ever turned down a role.

2. Greta Scacchi
Greta who? We have no clue how she got on this list.

1. Michelle Pfeiffer
We would have loved to see Michelle in this role, but it would have deprived us of the opportunity to see her in that Catwoman suit, so it’s probably a good thing she passed.
